Job Summary
Operate and maintain land management equipment under adverse environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rough terrain. Install and maintain pre-suppression fire lines while ensuring compliance with Silvicultural Best Management Practices during prescribed burning and wildfire suppression operations. Assist with forest projects such as timber marking, site preparation, and reforestation, and conduct wildlife and vegetation surveys. Perform trail, boundary, and invasive species management while coordinating with contractors to meet contract specifications. Read and interpret maps and aerial imagery to make sound land management decisions. Requires a valid Florida Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement, with training provided for entry-level drivers.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- one (1) year of experience in natural resource management
- Must possess a valid Florida Class A CDL with Tanker (N) endorsement or obtain the required license and endorsement within six (6) months of hire
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License
- Valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain the license and endorsement within six (6) months from the date of hire
- Ability to read and interpret maps and aerial imagery
- Ability to make sound land management decisions and recommendations
- Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals in various situations
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of John Deere 650 bulldozers or equivalent equipment
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of transport vehicles equipped with air brakes and both manual and automatic transmissions
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of farm tractors and related implements
- Ability to perform fieldwork under adverse environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, rough terrain, and exposure to natural hazards
- Ability to participate in prescribed burning and wildfire suppression operations
- Ability to operate and transport a variety of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, ATVs, tractors, and airboats
- Ability to assist with invasive species management
- Ability to complete occasional overnight travel as required
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
