Job Summary
Lamproom Supervisor responsible for overseeing lamproom operations at a mining site, ensuring health, safety and productivity. Key duties include implementing occupational Health, Safety and Environmental standards; performing lamproom procedures and maintaining equipment; managing lamproom activities; problem-solving and communication with site personnel; selecting and using lamproom tools (lighting, self-contained respirators, gas detection devices); basic maintenance of portable lighting and gas detectors; planning and executing mine and safety programmes; interpreting and applying compliance documentation and preparing statutory reports; coordinating with site teams; procuring materials/resources per site requirements; maintaining records/logs; monitoring lamproom equipment and initiating repairs; ensuring asset clearance procedures and reporting for equipment not tested or returned; maintaining general lamproom upkeep; reporting issues to supervisor; and performing any other duties as assigned. Health and Safety emphasis includes adherence to mine safety regulations, risk assessments, valid inductions, PPE use and proper disposal of hazardous waste. Supervisory responsibilities include guiding Junior Lampsman and Reliever Lampsman staff, training on-site personnel, and ensuring safety and quality of service for customers.
Required Qualifications
- Matric or equivalent with mathematics and physical science on higher grade (grade E) or Standard grade (D symbol)
- National Lampsman certificate
- At least 5 years’ experience in a Lamproom of which at least 2 years’ in a supervisory role
- Understanding of lamproom equipment and tools
- Good computer skills (Microsoft package)
