Job Summary
Provides expert lactation care in lactation management according to ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants. Provides informal and formal staff development activities related to breastfeeding management. Serves as an expert consultant to maternal-child staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in the management of patients with complex breastfeeding problems. Participates in program development activities. Practices according to the family-centered maternity care model.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing
- If RN, BSN within 24 months of hire for those hired after 6/1/12 (preferred)
- Associate Degree required
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding required
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting
- Experience with breastfeeding management required
- Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license
- IBCLC required within two years of hire
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider
- NRP within 3 months of hire
