Job Summary
Provide expert lactation care in accordance with ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants. Deliver informal and formal staff development on breastfeeding management; serve as an expert consultant to maternal-child staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals for complex breastfeeding problems; participate in program development; practice within a family-centered maternity care model.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing, preferred
- RN license in Texas or compact license, required
- IBCLC required within two years of hire
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider
- NRP within 3 months of hire
- Associate Degree required
- If RN, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding required
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting
- Experience with breastfeeding management required
Desired Qualifications
- IBCLC lactation consultant certification
- RN license in Texas or compact license
- BSN preferred/required within 24 months for RN
- experience in maternal-child health nursing in acute care
- continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding
- ACLS/CPR? (AHA/Red Cross BLS) and NRP within 3 months
