Job Summary
Lactation Consultant RN providing expert lactation management following ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants; offers informal and formal staff development on breastfeeding management; serves as an expert consultant to maternal-child staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in managing patients with complex breastfeeding problems; participates in program development; practices family-centered maternity care.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing
- If RN, and if hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position
- Associate Degree required
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding required
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting
- Experience with breastfeeding management required
- Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license
- IBCLC required within two years of hire
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider
- NRP within 3 months of hire
