Job Summary
Lactation Consultant RN provides expert lactation management per ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants, delivers informal/formal staff development on breastfeeding management, and serves as a consultant to maternal-child staff and physicians for complex breastfeeding cases. The role participates in program development, aligns with family-centered maternity care, and supports lactation services within a large Texas hospital system. The position requires RN licensure in Texas or a compact license, IBCLC within two years, BLS and NRP, and ongoing lactation education, with a minimum of two years’ maternal-child health nursing experience in an acute care setting. Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing
- If RN, BSN required within 24 months of hire (post-6/1/12)
- Associate Degree required
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding required
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting
- Experience with breastfeeding management required
- Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license
- IBCLC required within two years of hire
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider
- NRP within 3 months of hire
