Job Summary
Lactation Consultant on the Mother/Baby nursing team educating and supporting mothers who plan to breastfeed, monitoring infants at risk for delayed breastfeeding, and assisting mother/infant pairs with feeding and bonding. Responsibilities include staff education, policy and procedure development and evaluation, monitoring breastfeeding outcomes and infant nutrition, and participation in continuing education. Involves direct patient care, nursing rounds, assessments and treatments, admission/transfer/discharge coordination, and family-centered education. Requires a BSN, Kentucky RN licensure, CLC, IBCLC progression if not currently certified, and BLS within 30 days of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a nursing school with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Current RN licensure to work in Kentucky
- CLC required, IBCLC preferred and if applicant does not currently have IBCLC, then will work to gain IBCLC certification within three (3) years of hire date
- Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire
- Adequate hours in lactation education to sit for Lactation Certification Exam
