Job Summary
Provide direct lactation assessment, education, and support to mother-baby dyads, developing individualized care plans for breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and milk supply concerns. Serve as a clinical resource for nurses, physicians, and hospital staff regarding lactation concerns while facilitating patient education classes and connecting families with outpatient resources. Maintain compliance with Human Donor Milk policies, documentation, and regulatory requirements, and participate in data collection related to Baby-Friendly designation and quality initiatives. Work night shifts (7:00 PM–7:15 AM) with variable nights at a leading healthcare organization in White Plains, New York. Requires BSN, active NY RN license, and IBCLC certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification through IBLCE
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within 180 days of hire
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 180 days of hire
- Strong knowledge of breastfeeding, lactation management, maternal-newborn nursing, and current clinical practices
- Strong maternal and newborn assessment skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound clinical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to respond quickly to changing patient and department needs
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work variable 12-hour night shifts
Desired Qualifications
- Previous Mother-Baby, postpartum, Labor and Delivery, NICU, or women's health nursing experience
- Previous hospital-based lactation consulting experience
- Experience providing breastfeeding education in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Experience supporting Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative standards
- Experience working with donor human milk programs
- Previous experience educating or training clinical staff
