Job Summary
Oversee and direct the day-to-day event management operations of the Los Angeles Convention Center, leading a team of Event Managers through mentorship and training. Plan and execute premier events while ensuring accurate distribution of specifications, floor plans, and communications. Strategically troubleshoot event challenges and coordinate onsite client visits, meetings, and schedule logistics within the LA Live Entertainment District. Champion standard processes, maintain strong alliances with partners like LA Tourism and the Convention Board, and lead weekly events review meetings. Temporarily assume VP responsibilities as needed and complete special projects assigned by leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Arts/Sciences Degree (2-year), Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree
- 5-7 years related work experience
- Ability to effectively plan, execute and troubleshoot trade shows, conventions, consumer shows, and other large events
- Must be detailed oriented
- Ability to manage both fiscal and ancillary resources
- Ability to coordinate and schedule the work of others
- Must have reliable transportation
- Required variable work schedule such as late hours, early mornings, extended hours, holidays, and weekends
- Ability to multitask in demanding, highly active situations
- Knowledge of building policies, city codes, and fire codes as they pertain to event management
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 20 pounds or more
Desired Qualifications
- Area of Study: Business, Hospitality or Venue Management
- Certified Venue Profession (CVP)
- Certified Exhibition Manager (CEM)
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP)
- Working knowledge of Ungerboeck, iPlan, AutoCad or similar software
- Competency in Microsoft Office suite
- Previous management experience in a convention center venue
