Job Summary

Labour Relations/Human Resources Advisor role based in Ottawa, Ontario. Provides labour relations and HR advisory services in a unionized environment under the Labour Relations Manager, supporting operational and strategic goals. Delivers comprehensive labour relations and legal advice representing the employer in staffing, policy development, collective bargaining, and dispute resolution across multiple jurisdictions. Requires a law degree, bar membership, and experience in adjudication and grievance management within unionized settings. Bilingual in English and French with strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills; hybrid work arrangement with flexible arrangements for staff. Located in Ottawa with travel as required. Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a law degree from a recognized university
  • Called to the bar and a member in good standing of a provincial or territorial law society
  • Experience representing the employer in adjudication before Boards of Arbitration, the Ontario Labour Board, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Human Rights Tribunal, Pay Equity Tribunal, and other forums
  • Two to four years of experience in an Employee/Labour Relations role in a unionized workplace
  • Knowledge of HR disciplines including job analysis and design, recruitment, staffing, compensation, attendance management, learning and development, pension/benefits administration, employee orientation, feedback process, diversity management and organizational design
  • Experience managing all levels of the grievance process in accordance with applicable collective agreements
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Written skills to prepare information bulletins, analyses, grievance responses and reports
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Second language skills as per CEFR levels
