Job Summary
Contain loose refuse to prevent scattering and direct traffic at the landfill. Manually pick up windblown paper from the landfill periphery, carrying large plastic bags to deposit refuse. Operate a mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse along fenced borders and adjacent public property, driving the tractor to vacuum areas and repeating the process as necessary. Lift construction materials for site maintenance projects using hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chain saws. Separate metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at transfer stations. During peak summer traffic, direct vehicle flow at the landfill entrance using verbal communication or hand signals. This safety-sensitive role requires strict compliance with all safety rules and protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies
- Must be able to lift construction materials for projects related to site maintenance i.e., lumber, bags of concrete mix, hand tools, etc.
- Must be able to use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes and chain saws
- Must be able to manually separate metal, white goods, lumber and cardboard from trash on tipping floor at landfills with transfer station
- Must be able to manually pick up windblown paper from periphery of landfill
- Must be able to carry a large plastic trash bag
- Must be able to drive a tractor pulling vacuum
- Must be able to park and descend an tractor
- Must be able to grasp a vacuum hose handle and guide it
- Must be able to ascend and descend a tractor cab
- Must be able to direct traffic at the landfill entrance
- Must be able to communicate with drivers verbally or by hand signals
- Must strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols
- Must be subject to drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment screening, post-incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing
