Job Summary
Conduct manual labor for street, alley, sidewalk, and right-of-way maintenance, including asphalt patching, pothole repair, litter removal, and vegetation management. Install and remove traffic control devices, load materials, and operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely. Assist with snow and ice operations, perform equipment maintenance, and respond to emergency situations or severe weather events as assigned. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow, while navigating uneven terrain and construction zones. Perform duties as part of a team, including extended shifts, irregular hours, and on-call rotations for emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and light equipment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Basic problem-solving and time management skills
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and light equipment
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Adequate visual acuity to read instruments, inspect work areas and monitor traffic and jobsite conditions
- Ability to monitor surroundings and equipment operation
- Ability to hear warning signals, verbal instructions, and equipment sounds in noisy environments
- Must successfully complete all pre-employment screenings and employment eligibility verification
- Candidates must successfully complete a drug test
- Candidates must successfully complete a background and national sex offender search
- Candidates must successfully complete a motor vehicle record search
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, public works, maintenance, or related manual labor
- Experience operating hand tools, power tools, or light equipment
- Experience working around traffic control or construction zones
- Basic construction, maintenance, and safe work practices
- Proper use of hand and power tools

- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead and below waist level, and maintain awkward positions
- Ability to perform sustained physical labor in outdoor environments for extended periods (8–12 hours), including during inclement weather and emergency response
- Ability to navigate uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated surfaces, including manholes, culverts, embankments, at heights (such as on rooftops, ladders, or scaffolding)
- Ability to work safely in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions
- Ability to work near standing water, biological hazards, or contaminated materials with safety protocols in place
