Job Summary
Assist operators, pipe layers, and supervisors with excavation and underground utility construction, including hand digging around existing services and installing water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer mains. Perform grading, backfilling, and trench compaction while loading, unloading, and moving materials safely. Install and remove trench boxes and shoring systems, operate hand and power tools, and conduct daily hazard assessments before work begins. Maintain a clean, organized site and follow all safety policies and supervisor instructions. This role requires CSTS 2020 certification and physical capability for demanding manual labor in all weather conditions. Overtime and weekend work may be required during peak season.
Required Qualifications
- CSTS 2020
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Ability to safely work in and around open excavations and trenches
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, digging, shoveling, kneeling, and performing demanding manual labour
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to travel to various job sites throughout Alberta
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required

Desired Qualifications
- Previous excavation, underground utility, or heavy civil construction experience
- Experience working around excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment
- Ground Disturbance and Confined Space certifications
- Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
