Job Summary
Organize metal material into bins, boxes, or bags, dismantle metal using hand tools or mechanical means, and operate machines that chop and separate metals. Sort material by hand at shredders or shaker tables, assemble and package metals for shipping, and maintain cleanliness in the work area. Serve as a trainer for new Laborer I or II employees, explaining company procedures and equipment operation. Perform routine inspections to ensure proper housekeeping and follow OSHA safety procedures. Demonstrate ability to operate a forklift, work without supervision, and collaborate with team members to achieve department goals. This fully on-site role in Granite City, IL, requires physical exertion and adherence to safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
- Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety
- Maintains safety as high priority in all aspects of responsibility
- Must be medically cleared, fit-tested, and qualified to wear a respirator when applicable
- Must maintain appropriate personal grooming to ensure an effective respirator seal
- Demonstrate ability to operate a forklift
- Experience working in two or more departments
