Job Summary
Conduct highway maintenance activities including inspecting roads, bridges, and culverts for maintenance needs, mixing and spreading concrete or asphalt, and operating light trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, and skid loaders. Perform manual labor such as digging trenches, repairing signs, and loading/unloading materials while controlling traffic in work zones and reporting hazards to the Road Supervisor. Maintain assigned equipment through daily inspections, servicing, and repairs, and ensure all operations adhere to safety rules and regulations. Respond to call-outs during nights and weekends as needed for emergency situations. This non-exempt position offers a base pay of $18.00/hr with benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance.
Required Qualifications
- Class C (CDL a plus) Kansas Drivers License
- High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
- Must be safety minded
- Willing and capable of working in extreme weather conditions
- Labor intensive
- Must be available for call-outs (potentially at all hours) during nights and weekends
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere
- Good-natured, cooperative attitude
- Must show up for work on a regular and predictable basis as scheduled
- Must be able to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions
- Required to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Basic math knowledge
- Operate two-way radio
- Operate motor vehicle
- Capable of reading tape measure, square and protractor
- Agility and alertness to safely move with equipment and loads around the construction site
- Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to deal with people and communicate with others directly or by telephone
- Requires sufficient visual acuity to read and write and operate equipment
- Static Strength: The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
- Stamina: The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
- Extent Flexibility: The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
- Lift up to 90 pounds to a height of 48 inches
- Lift 80 pounds occasionally
- Lift 50 pounds frequently
- Lift 20 pounds constantly
- Push a maximum force of 100 pounds
- Pull a maximum force of 100 pounds
- Floor to knuckle: 72 lbs.

- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in road construction
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, machines and tools, including their uses, repair and maintenance
- Hazardous Materials Awareness Level Certificate
- Additional equipment operation training
- Ability to speak a foreign language
- Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
