Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist performs critical tasks in the clinical laboratory including specimen processing, phlebotomy, and validating test orders. Responsibilities encompass utilizing high complexity methods and instrumentation to yield accurate results while maintaining specimen integrity. The position demands a strong understanding of laboratory testing methods, quality control procedures, and the ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test appropriateness and results. Required qualifications include an Associate of Science degree or equivalent laboratory experience, along with knowledge of medical terminology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science or higher-level degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined by CLIA 88 for individuals performing high complexity testing
- Knowledge of Medical terminology and laboratory information system
- Functional skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience within a clinical laboratory
- ASCP preferred
