Job Summary
Quality Lab Technician performs laboratory testing of asphalt, emulsions, and related construction materials to verify conformance with specifications and project requirements. Responsible for timely receipt of samples from production facilities, running standardized tests per AASHTO specifications, reporting results to client facilities, and maintaining equipment and records. Collaborates with manufacturing plants to drive quality and safety, with duties including testing, recording, and communicating results, and occasionally traveling between plants and job sites. Requires strong attention to detail, ability to troubleshoot, and effective communication with lab personnel, plant crews, inspectors, and management. Flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, or weekends during peak paving season; occasional travel between plants and projects; valid driver’s license required. EEO employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical schooling preferred
- Experience with laboratory testing of asphalt or construction materials preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized test methods
- Effective communication with lab, plant, paving crews, inspectors, and management
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet production-driven timelines
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends during peak paving season
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles
- Preferred experience with testing asphalt products to AASHTO M-320 and M-322 and emulsions to AASHTO standards
