Laboratory Technician I

Job Summary

Read and understand analysis and safety standards including ASTM, GPA, API, UOP, and IP. Perform routine laboratory tests, basic analytical tests, and equipment maintenance under close supervision. Assist senior personnel in setting up, adjusting, and operating laboratory equipment while calibrating instruments and preparing chemical solutions. Complete raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs. Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient workplace by addressing safety infractions promptly and complying with health, safety, and quality management system requirements. Work in a normal office environment with occasional international travel, exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea
  • Regularly required to stand
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Regularly required to talk or hear
  • Regularly required to test or smell
  • Frequently required to walk
  • Frequently required to sit
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to work in a normal office working environment
  • Must be available for international travel

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • Two years of related experience and/or training
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
