Job Summary
Laboratory Technician, Histology-PRN at Denver Health. Responsible for accessioning, delivering, and processing laboratory specimens used for diagnosis and treatment; performs weekly QC/QA and maintains processing instrumentation; provides backup coverage to Anatomic Pathology areas; assists with specialized collections and processing (e.g., bone marrow, renal adequacy). Tasks include proper labeling, handling, preservation, transport, and storage of specimens; embedding techniques; inventory management; troubleshooting equipment and testing procedures; ensuring regulatory compliance and patient safety. Requires High School Diploma/GED and 1-3 years hospital/medical or research-lab experience; familiarity with histopathology techniques and LIS (EPIC Beaker) preferred. Shift: PRN/Intermittent; Salary: $21.00-$28.07/hr.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- 1-3 years experience as a laboratory technician in a hospital/medical or research laboratory
- Knowledge of Histopathology techniques and Ancillary Testing (flow cytometry, cytogenetics, electron microscopy, special stains, immunohistochemistry)
- Knowledge of surgical pathology coding
- Basic computer and hospital/laboratory information system skills; EPIC Beaker experience preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot testing, equipment, and quality issues
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and coworkers
