Job Summary
Collect, label, and process biological samples including blood, urine, and tissue, then perform routine and specialized laboratory tests such as blood counts and chemical analyses. Operate and maintain equipment like analyzers and microscopes, ensuring accurate calibration and functioning while analyzing results and reporting findings to supervisors or physicians. Implement quality control procedures, participate in proficiency testing, and document all procedures and results in the laboratory information system or electronic health record. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, monitor inventory levels, and adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards including OSHA, CLIA, and CAP. Assist in mentoring new personnel and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field from an accredited program
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precise sample handling and analysis
- Ability to lift and carry laboratory equipment and supplies as needed
- Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials while adhering to safety protocols
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a recognized certifying agency such as ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists)
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including specimen collection, preparation, and analysis
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and interpreting results
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare providers and documenting laboratory findings
- Technical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
