Job Summary
Laboratory Technician roles involve inspecting industrial and commercial waste discharges, ensuring compliance with ordinances and permits, and performing field and laboratory tests. Responsibilities include inspecting facilities and equipment (drains, traps, tanks), sampling and analyzing wastewater (chemical/physical tests), conducting field tests for wastewater characteristics, testing for explosive gas in sewers, preparing reports, and coordinating with private industry during investigations. Required skills include knowledge of waste sampling methods, operation of monitoring equipment, and ability to prepare inspection reports. A HS diploma is required with coursework in basic sciences, and candidates must obtain a Class D Wastewater license within a year; a valid CDL is also required. Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by advanced course work in chemistry, biology, physics or other of the basic sciences
- Six months experience in obtaining wastewater samples and conducting routine chemical and physical tests
- Must be able to obtain a Class D Wastewater license within one year of employment
- Must maintain a valid class B, Commercial Driver’s License
- Must maintain a telephone at residence and be available for emergency call-in while employed by the City
