Job Summary
Manage specimen preparation, storage, and packaging while performing proper and timely specimen collection using venipuncture and capillary techniques. Accurately label specimens, process accessioning, and handle patient registration, billing, and test order procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and leadership to optimize job performance and foster working relationships. Float to cover sites primarily in Fairfax, Falls Church, and Annandale, with hours varying from 6:30am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Phlebotomy training
- Completion certificate from a Phlebotomy program or another Allied Health training program, such as Medical Assistant, Medical Lab Technician or Medical Technologist
- 1 year of experience in a Patient Service Center environment or at least 6 months in an Inova Patient Service Center
- This requirement can also be met by successfully completing the Inova Phlebotomy School
- Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire
- Full time, Float position - hours can vary from 6:30am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday with possible Saturdays 7:00am to 5:00pm
- LTA float will be responsible for floating to cover sites mainly to primary care or OB offices in the Fairfax, Falls Church & Annandale area but if there is a need, they may float to other supervisor territories which could be anywhere in Northern Virginia area
- The location they will be working at is communicated the day before but it is subject to change the day of

- Accurately and efficiently performing specimen accessioning and processing to ensure the integrity of specimens for laboratory testing
- Collecting specimens using venipuncture and capillary techniques, selecting the appropriate collection tubes, and accurately labeling specimens
