Job Summary
Provide high-quality, hands-on technical support for solid organ transplantation research, focused on ex vivo organ perfusion studies. Responsibilities include maintenance of equipment, protocol development, preparation and processing of specimens, data management and reporting (e.g., REDCap/Achiever), supplier negotiation for specialized equipment, managing lab spaces and safety/compliance tasks, training and mentoring junior staff, coordinating perfusion runs and sample collection, liaising with multidisciplinary NHS teams and collaborators, ensuring regulatory and ethical documentation, and contributing to research program development and operational efficiency. Strong emphasis on time-critical operations, safe handling of human tissue, and collaboration across a multidisciplinary team within Newcastle University and partner institutions.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in a technical laboratory, clinical research or perfusion-related setting
- Experience of working with human tissue or biological samples within a regulated environment
- In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety procedures, the Human Tissue Act 2004, and Good Clinical Practice
- Experience supporting complex experimental or technical procedures (e.g. perfusion, advanced laboratory techniques)
- Strong communication and teamworking skills, including working with multidisciplinary clinical and academic teams
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems and meet deadlines independently, including in time‐critical situations
- Experience of recording and managing research data, including use of databases and sample tracking systems
