Job Summary
Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis, testing, and shipping by unpacking, routing, identifying, labeling, and packing samples to their respective staging areas and facilities. Accurately identify and label specimens, pack and ship them to proper testing locations, and store excess specimen samples. Perform data entry of patient information accurately and timely, and resolve and document any problem specimens. Meet department activity and production goals while working independently in a fast-paced production environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Comfortability with handling biological specimens
- Ability to accurately identify specimens
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Desired Qualifications
- 3 months or more of specimen processing experience
- 3 months or more of medical or laboratory experience
