Job Summary
Hands-on Laboratory Operations Specialist role based in New York City. You will oversee day-to-day lab operations such as sample intake/labeling/storage, inventory and consumables management, equipment maintenance tracking, and vendor coordination to ensure smooth execution of core lab activities. Responsibilities include managing sample intake and tracking, replenishing consumables, coordinating gas supply, supporting calibration and maintenance of instruments (XRD, XRF, SEM), maintaining lab safety compliance (labeling, waste disposal, SDS records, regulatory requirements), tracking lab status and flagging issues to the research team, assisting scientists with sample preparation and basic characterization, and onboarding new lab users while maintaining SOPs. Required B.S. in a related field and 1+ year lab experience; hands-on experience with lab instruments; familiarity with safety practices and OSHA/EH&S requirements; based in NYC.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
- 1+ year of professional lab experience (lab tech, research assistant, or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience with common lab instruments and techniques
- Experience managing consumables, chemical inventory, or gas supply
- Familiarity with lab safety practices and OSHA/EH&S requirements
- Highly organized, reliable, and proactive
- Based in New York City
