Job Summary
Manage day-to-day operations of undergraduate and graduate chemistry and chemical biology teaching and research labs, including purchasing materials, coordinating instructor transitions, and overseeing gas container distribution. Partner with faculty to develop modern teaching methods, simplify experimental procedures, and implement digital tools like Electronic Lab Notebooks. Act as a visible leader for safety compliance, conducting annual training and coordinating maintenance and emergency responses with campus facilities. This fixed-term role involves up to 35 hours per week, four on-campus days and one remote day, with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in biology or chemical biology discipline
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in an undergraduate and/or graduate biology lab-based setting
- Proven leader with impeccable organizational skills, a healthy sense of urgency, and a strong track record of multitasking and timely problem-solving
- Clear verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work one-on-one with students effectively
- Ability to collaborate and interact with faculty, students, and staff in a collegial and professional manner
- Demonstrate capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success
- Strong knowledge of general lab safety and operations, and proactive in following up on contracts, orders, and safety protocols
- Ability to partner with leadership to achieve the goals of the department's strategic plan for offered academic programs
- Strong fiscal responsibility in managing budgets within a resource-restricted environment
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in an undergraduate and/or graduate biology lab-based setting
- Master's degree in biology or chemical biology discipline
