Job Summary
Conduct practical biology demonstrations and instruct students on laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and specimen handling. Prepare lab materials, set up equipment, and maintain cultures while designing assessments and marking student work. Coordinate field trips, order supplies, and liaise with faculty and vendors to ensure smooth lab operations. Maintain student conduct and academic integrity during experiments and assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor of Science (Biology) or relevant discipline where a majority of course work is in biology (e.g. biochemistry, plant biology, ecology, etc.)
- Two (2) years of relevant experience as a lab demonstrator, teaching assistant or acceptable equivalent, preferably in a post-secondary environment
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Considerable knowledge of the course content, procedures, techniques and methodologies involved in biological laboratory environment
- Must have a working knowledge of Worksafe and WHMIS regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, instructors, staff and students
- Ability to advise and direct laboratory aides and student employees
- Ability to demonstrate the use of different equipment and techniques to students
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply department rules, policies and technical materials
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to effectively supervise, direct and lead others
- Ability to respond and manage potentially dangerous, hazardous, or emergency situations
- Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility
- Familiarity with office applications such as MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Applicants to postings must be located in BC or willing to move to BC to accept work with Langara College
