Job Summary
Verify patient identifiers and perform clinical intake prior to venipuncture, fingersticks, heel sticks, or PKUs on infants. Obtain blood samples using appropriate order of draw tubes, ensuring accurate labeling and specimen integrity through aseptic technique. Complete venipuncture questionnaires, scan documents within 24 hours, and perform CLIA waived inhouse testing while maintaining quality controls. Scrub lab schedules, check after-hours specimen boxes, and generate daily TNP/TIQ reports. Maintain inventory control, clean equipment, and ensure compliance with HIPAA, JCAHO, and CDC guidelines. Greet patients with courtesy, listen attentively, and prioritize requests to deliver prompt service.

- Ability to verify patient by confirming two (2) patient identifiers
- Ability to perform clinical intake prior to lab procedure(s)
- Ability to complete venipuncture questionnaire with the patient
- Ability to scan venipuncture documents within 24 hours of blood draw
- Ability to verify lab requisitions placed in Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Ability to identify and separate frozen orders from the master requisition
- Ability to explain the venipuncture procedure to the patient
- Ability to select blood sample collection tubes and use them in the appropriate order of draw
- Ability to obtain blood sample(s) by performing venipunctures, fingersticks, heel sticks, or PKUs on infants/newborns
- Ability to ensure accuracy of preprinted requisitions and labels
- Ability to ensure accurate labeling of all specimens delivered to the Lab
- Ability to ensure PCAs/Support staff accurately identify collected specimens
- Ability to ensure the referring provider matches the ordering provider
- Ability to apply venipuncture charges to the system
- Ability to maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique
- Ability to maintain specimen integrity by centrifuging within the time required
- Ability to confirm timely collection of specimens placed outside in after-hours boxes
- Ability to perform CLIA waived inhouse testing
- Ability to perform recommended quality controls
- Ability to follow department protocol/procedures and accurately record results in the quality-control log
- Ability to scrub Lab schedule the day prior to lab appointments
- Ability to introduce seasonal vaccines to patients
- Ability to check Lab schedules to ensure Provider(s) order the day prior to patient(s) appointment
- Ability to maintain inventory control of laboratory supplies & equipment
- Ability to generate and resolve TNP/TIQ reports daily
- Ability to check Laboratory inventory and discard expired items
- Ability to clean and maintain work area and all laboratory equipment and supplies
- Ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion
- Ability to ensure updated calibration of all lab equipment
