Job Summary

Obtain blood samples and prepare them for analysis, distribution, and transport to reference laboratories. Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, manage patient flow for outpatient services, and perform point-of-care testing while maintaining equipment quality control. Navigate and modify orders in Cerner, accurately accession patient data into the laboratory information system, and troubleshoot processing discrepancies. Distribute non-automated specimens, maintain CAP-compliant storage, and coordinate courier logistics for off-site draws at Lafayette Center, Riverglen, and home locations. Monitor supply stock, manage inventory through Premier Materials Management, and cross-train in pathology specimen processing as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year post high school training in health related field
  • Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience required
  • High School Diploma
  • Meticulous in transcribing data to computer
  • Ability to follow established protocols
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 codes
  • General knowledge of laboratory tests
  • Ability to discern and effectively give attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Client relation/interpersonal skills
  • Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
  • Ability to bend legs at knee

  • Ability to pick, pinch, type or otherwise work with fingers

  • Ability to act as a liaison between laboratory services and other hospital services
