Job Summary
Receive and log incoming specimen shipments from multiple carriers, verifying integrity, labeling, and test orders for accuracy. Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System, assigning unique identifiers and linking them to correct patient and test orders. Sort and organize specimens by department or test type, preparing them for testing through aliquoting, centrifuging, and distribution. Communicate promptly with laboratory staff regarding discrepancies, missing information, or urgent specimens while maintaining accurate documentation. Follow biohazard safety protocols and ensure compliance with HIPAA and laboratory regulations. Assist with routine support tasks including inventory, specimen storage, and disposal. Work Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to lift packages up to 30 lbs
- Must be able to stand for extended periods
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree or completion of a laboratory assistant training program
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare environment
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Familiarity with specimen handling requirements
- Proficiency in data entry
- Comfort with laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Strong attention to detail
- Organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
