Job Summary
Obtain blood samples via venipuncture or capillary methods for clinician requests, screen specimens for acceptability, and process, distribute, or package all received samples. Deliver blood products to surgery and transport surgical specimens to appropriate laboratory sections. Handle inquiries regarding lab results, specimen status, and department functions while communicating professionally with patients, co-workers, and guests. Adhere to established hospital policies and participate in the department's quality improvement program. This role supports the primary clinical operations at Keck Hospital of USC, a 343-bed acute care facility conducting hundreds of clinical trials.
Required Qualifications
- High school or equivalent
- Specialized/technical training
- Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program
- 1 year Experience in Phlebotomy (preferably in an acute care facility setting)
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH)
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Must be available for weekend shifts
- Must be able to work rotating shifts
- Must be able to work per diem
- Must be able to work 8 hour shifts
- Must be able to work non-exempt
- Must be able to work union
- Must be able to work in a smoke-free environment
- Must be able to work in a digital accessible environment
