Job Summary
Laboratory Assistant to support specimen collection and processing across LifeLabs facilities in the Vancouver/Richmond region. Responsibilities include greeting patients, obtaining required information, explaining the specimen collection process, performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting Holter monitors and 24-hour BP monitoring, conducting ECG tracings, collecting special tests (e.g., medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials), maintaining patient relationships, and completing required documentation. Also involved are data entry of demographics and requisition information, preparing specimens for transportation and testing, and ensuring adherence to test protocols. Must be able to work at multiple PSCs, with some periods working independently during breaks and the ability to work 7 days a week with two non-consecutive days off. Ideal candidates will have completed a Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent healthcare experience, ECG training is a plus, strong data entry skills, and excellent communication and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent related experience (e.g., healthcare professional with phlebotomy/intravenous therapy experience)
- ECG training or experience is an asset
- Proficient data entry skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality
