Job Summary
Laboratory Assistant responsibilities include greeting patients and guiding them through the specimen collection process, performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting holter monitors, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and ECG tracings; handling special collections (medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and completing related documentation; maintaining client relationships and handling inquiries; completing data entry of patient demographics and requisition information; preparing specimens for transportation and testing. Requirements include completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent experience, ECG training/experience is a plus, strong data entry and communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and commitment to patient privacy. The position is part-time with a float schedule and may involve travel to multiple PSCs around the West Vancouver/Kitsilano area; there are two positions available, started ASAP, under BCGEU collective agreement.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent related experience in phlebotomy, intravenous infusion and/or intravenous therapy
- ECG training or experience is an asset
- Proficient data entry skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ability to relate to patients and health care providers
