Labor Relations Specialist

Job Summary

Interpret collective bargaining agreements and regulations, conducting reviews of proposed adverse actions for compliance. Manage union dues, seniority, wage, and grade placement by serving as the Union Partner for HR and Payroll, forwarding authorization forms, and calculating dues rates. Collaborate with union representatives to address grievances and support SCA activities by assisting with labor category mapping and reviewing Department of Labor wage determinations. Run monthly union dues reports in ADP, compile dues and pension spreadsheets, and submit payments to unions while addressing payroll inquiries. Address questions from unions regarding dues and pension spreadsheets, prepare annual rate requests, and standardize CBAs during renewal processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Service Contract Act (SCA) requirements, Department of Labor (DOL) wage determinations, and labor category mapping processes
  • Ability to interpret contract requirements and assist with aligning positions to applicable SCA labor categories
  • Familiarity with federal and state labor laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of HR practices, policies, and collective bargaining
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate transaction data and generating reports
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to embrace change, learn quickly, and thrive in a dynamic corporate environment
  • Skill in working harmoniously within cross-functional teams to achieve common objectives
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
  • Possesses attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and with outside agencies, partners, shareholders, and business associates
  • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to adapt messages and strategies for diverse audiences
  • High proficiency Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources, labor relations, HR operations, government contracting, or a related field

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional training in collective bargaining
  • Strong knowledge of personnel regulations and administrative procedures
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to collaborate with union representatives and effectively address grievances
  • Familiarity with HR and Payroll processes, particularly related to union agreements
  • Previous experience working with Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs)
  • Previous government contracting experience
