Job Summary
Independently and accurately perform routine and complex molecular testing, including DNA/RNA extraction and PCR, while reviewing preliminary and final test results. Assist in resolving technical problems, developing new procedures, and maintaining records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Coordinate daily communications with physicians and other parties, participate in educational activities, and maintain patient confidentiality. Perform other related work as required under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor. This role involves working in a clinical laboratory environment with possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics
- Associate's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical lab technology
- Educational equivalent to Associate's degree with at least 60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical lab technology
- 60 semester hours including 24 hours of science that includes 6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination
- 3 months training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed
- 1-2 two years of experience in a molecular CLIA licensed clinical laboratory
- Ability to read and comprehend English and follow instructions
- Good communication and critical thinking skills
- Understanding of statistics
- Ability to recognize potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals in the workplace and execute safety protocols in the event of exposure or spill
- Must be able to demonstrate competency for all required diagnostic tests and other areas of assignment within 3 months of hire date
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to lift 35lbs
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods
- Ability to walk/bend down
- Visual and auditory acuity
- Good eye/hand coordination
Desired Qualifications
- Medical Technologist board certification preferred
