Lab Technician

Job Summary
Perform routine soils laboratory testing including Atterberg limits, moisture content, grain size analysis, unconfined compressive strength tests, and Marshall Properties. Maintain laboratory equipment and space, assist with logging, storage, and disposal of soil samples, and prepare boring logs if computer skills are present. Work 20-30 hours weekly in the Kansas City laboratory under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager. This part-time or internship role requires standing for long periods and the ability to lift 50 pounds, with exposure to dusts, mists, and noxious odors.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Ability to effectively use computers
- Ability to use initiative and work independently within the limitations of experience
- Knowledge of various exploratory and laboratory techniques
- Required to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to consistently lift and or move 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in engineering, environmental, or construction materials testing fields
