Job Summary
Lab Technician based in Hobart/Merrillville, IN responsible for ensuring testing at the production facility, preparing samples for metallurgical analysis, and assisting with failure analysis. Perform mechanical testing of samples, mounting, polishing, etching, and recording microstructure. Read customer specifications and prints; operate measuring devices (calipers, micrometer, digital protractor, tape measure) and ensure packaging requirements are met. Follow 5S/lean practices and safety rules. Tasks on production floor may involve lifting up to 50 lbs. Collaborate with engineer/manager and participate in onboarding, training materials, and team objectives. Salary range approximately $46,800–$64,350; benefits include medical/vision/dental, life, disability, 401k, PTO, holidays. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- 3+ years work-related experience in quality inspections, measurement and spec/print reading required
- Degree or technical degree preferred
- General understanding of mechanical testing of steel is a plus
- General understanding of SPC (Statistical Process Control) is a PLUS
- Working knowledge of AS400, and/or JD Edwards a plus
- Ability to read customer specs/prints and distinguish acceptance criteria
- Ability to operate and read various measuring devices
