Job Summary
Prepare reagents, load samples, and run automated synthesis workflows for small molecule chemistry while verifying reaction outcomes by processing 1H and 13C NMR spectra and LCMS data. Maintain automated platforms through routine maintenance, solvent refills, and waste management to ensure minimal downtime on reactors and analytical instruments. Order chemicals and consumables, perform system calibrations, and troubleshoot liquid handling units while enforcing strict safety standards. This onsite, five-day week role in Boston supports Self-Driving Labs operations, requiring a Bachelor's in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry laboratories.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field
- Demonstrated background in synthetic organic chemistry laboratories, encompassing routine sample prep, handling reagents, and setting up reaction procedures for small molecules
- 1–3 years of hands-on laboratory work (academic research, thesis projects, or industry internships are applicable)
- Demonstrated background reading and processing 1H and 13C NMR spectra and LCMS data to verify reaction outcomes and compound purity
- Ability to prepare reagents, execute routine workflows, perform system cleanup, and handle basic routine maintenance on analytical tools and instruments
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety standards, hazardous material handling, chemical waste disposal protocols, and strict PPE compliance
- Excellent communication skills in English, enabling effective collaboration across both scientific and technical engineering teams
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be in the job location: Boston
- Onsite, 5 day a week hands-on role availability
Desired Qualifications
- A strong curiosity or demonstrated interest in high-throughput chemistry, laboratory automation, or robotic liquid/solid handling systems
- Comfort working with complex instrument-control software and an aptitude to learn basic scripting, automated workflow setup, or logic-based experimental design
- A highly methodical, detail-oriented approach to sample tracking, deck layout setup, and routine execution
- Some programming skills: C#, Python
