Job Summary
Manage laboratory data collection systems to ensure test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged to inpatient, outpatient, and institutional accounts. Perform specimen collection procedures for both inpatients and outpatients, handling non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution. Maintain sufficient finger dexterity and visual ability for locating blood vessels while communicating effectively with patients. Requires a high school diploma, phlebotomy certification, or relevant degree/experience. Schedule runs Thursday through Saturday from 3:00pm to 3:30am with weekend requirements; no on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) or post-secondary education
- Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program
- At least a two (2) year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty
- Two (2) years' experience in specimen collections, specimen processing and specimen requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or health care delivery system
- Clinical training in a Northside Hospital Lab, as part of the clinical rotations needed for education requirements (high school or college level)
- A valid, verifiable Phlebotomy Certification
- Pass a Color-Acuity screening Test
- Must have sufficient feeling in fingers and visual ability to locate patients' blood vessels

- Ability to use and understand medical laboratory terminology
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and design
- Demonstrated public relations skills and service delivery training
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing
- Ability to communicate effectively and must possess good written and oral communication skills
