Job Summary
Lab Tech (2nd Shift) supports the facility's quality assurance program and the department's specialized positions. Responsibilities include in-plant analysis and audits of production/quality records, sampling for post-process measurements (including primary/secondary packaging, product evaluation, sample library management, and incubation program), collecting samples for external analysis and customer positive release, reporting deviations to the Quality Manager, administering sample collection per the sampling program, reviewing Finished Goods and Raw Material Analysis, collaborating with R&D to keep Finished Product Specifications up to date, entering and compiling data in systems, creating reports, and participating in team activities to promote best practices. Requires familiarity with Simmons operating systems, ability to perform daily calibrations, use of spreadsheet software, and willingness to travel domestically for site visits. On-site role with PPE usage in a manufacturing environment; remote-work not indicated. Preferred candidates have QA/QC experience and knowledge of HACCP and GMPs; Bachelor’s or related science degree preferred. This is a Salary Exempt position and a veteran-friendly workplace.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (minimum)
- Bachelor’s or 2-year degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field or some college-level Science courses (preferred)
- Some Quality Assurance or Quality Control experience preferred
- Working knowledge of laboratory procedures, HACCP principles and plant GMPs
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Gmail
- Thermal Processing knowledge & double seam knowledge (if Pet Food facility)
- Industry experience in food processing (preferred)
- Travel: limited domestically to facilities/work-sites, possibly overnight
