Job Summary
Process patient laboratory specimens efficiently, including receipt, accessioning, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and distribution across hospital locations and reference laboratories. Inspect samples for correct labeling and integrity, manage STAT and urgent samples, and prepare manifests for shipping. Perform clerical duties such as inputting test orders, generating labels, triaging phone lines, and collecting patient information. Monitor inventory levels, place orders, and maintain quality control records while adhering to infection control and safe work practices. This role supports staff training, manages supply inventory, and ensures accurate specimen tracking to maintain sample adequacy.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical/hospital setting
- Knowledge of specimen acceptability and processing steps
- Skill in computer accessioning, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, distribution, storage, handling and shipping within and between hospital locations and reference laboratories
- Familiarity with computers
- Professional, customer service-oriented individual

- Adheres to established procedures and practices in maintaining accurate specimens and requests identities at all times
- Practices proper infection control techniques
- Demonstrates safe work practices
Desired Qualifications
- One year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical/hospital setting preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) preferred
