Job Summary

Conduct clean venipunctures and capillary collections while adhering to safety guidelines for blood, body fluids, and hazardous chemicals. Document lab testing, quality control, and assurance activities; maintain reagent and supply inventory levels. Identify issues affecting test performance or reporting, correct them, or notify the Clinic and Clinical Laboratory Operations Managers immediately. Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established specifications and record entries for "lab only" visits. Utilize the Laboratory Information System to order tests, reject results, and print reports. Requires phlebotomy certification or experience, with a preference for candidates holding a Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant credential and two years of clinical lab experience.

  • High school diploma
  • Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant
  • 2 years of clinical lab experience
  • 1 year phlebotomy
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Demonstrates ability to perform clean venipunctures
  • Demonstrates ability to perform capillary collections
  • Follows proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ongoing quality assurance activities in the office
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results
  • Must be able to document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory's established performance specifications
  • Be able to document in charts for lab only visits

Desired Qualifications

  • Outpatient facility or physician office experience
  • Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant with 2 years of clinical lab experience preferred
  • One year phlebotomy preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred but not required
