Job Summary
Greet patients, request required information, and explain the specimen collection process before collecting samples. Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings. Complete special test collections such as medical/legal drug screens and paternity tests, then enter patient demographics and requisition data. Prepare specimens for transportation and testing while maintaining strict privacy standards. This temporary, part-time role in Toronto requires flexibility for weekend shifts and varying schedules from 6:45 AM to 6:30 PM. Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent
- Phlebotomy experience
- ECG training or experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
- Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
- Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
- Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality
- Must be able to assist at various PSCs within our region
- Available from 6:45 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday, and 6:45 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturdays
- Must be able to work weekends as needed
- Flexibility is essential
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred
- Phlebotomy experience is an asset
- ECG training or experience is an asset
