Job Summary
Lab Patient Technician with part-time schedule in Thornhill/Vaughan area handling specimen collection, phlebotomy, ECG tracings, holter monitor connections, and special test collections (e.g., drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials). Responsibilities include greeting patients, ensuring test protocol compliance, data entry of demographics and requisition information, preparing specimens for transportation/testing, and maintaining client relationships with emphasis on patient privacy and confidentiality. Requires completion of an approved Laboratory Assistant program (preferred), phlebotomy and ECG experience (assets), strong communication, typing (40 wpm), and adaptability to changing requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred
- Phlebotomy experience is an asset
- ECG training or experience is an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
- Strong customer/patient service and ability to relate to patients and clients in stressful situations
- Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
