Job Summary
As a Lab Patient Technician, you will execute the specimen collection process from greeting patients through preparation of specimens for transportation, perform phlebotomies and related procedures (including holter monitors and ECG tracings), handle special test collections (e.g., medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials), maintain client relationships, and complete data entry for patient demographics and test-related information. You will prepare specimens for testing, ensure adherence to test protocols, and support the location by covering sick calls, vacations, and occasional Saturday shifts at the Orleans location. The role emphasizes accurate patient interactions, adherence to privacy standards, and contributing to LifeLabs’ total rewards and benefits programs.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred
- Phlebotomy experience is an asset
- ECG training or experience is an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
- Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
- Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
- Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality
