Job Summary
Direct and oversee laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic services by establishing specimen preparation standards, implementing analytical testing procedures, and evaluating findings to ensure accurate reporting. Manage inventory and supply chain operations while certifying instrument performance and coordinating maintenance to maintain equipment reliability. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards including CLIA through quality assurance programs, proficiency testing, and policy development. Recruit, hire, train, and mentor qualified personnel while scheduling staff and evaluating performance to support departmental goals. Collaborate with pathologists and healthcare professionals to resolve clinical concerns and lead the implementation of new testing methodologies and technologies. Prepare operational, quality, and financial reports while maintaining strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive post-baccalaureate biomedical laboratory experience
- At least four (4) years of direct supervisory or management experience in a CLIA-compliant clinical laboratory or anatomical pathology laboratory
- Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a closely related life sciences field
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory operations, healthcare administration, clinical practices, and laboratory management systems
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements governing laboratory operations
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, quality control, laboratory accreditation, and compliance standards
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical and operational data
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and decision-making in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, patients, vendors, and the public
- Proficiency in computer systems, laboratory information systems (LIS), and business applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation, presentation delivery, and policy/procedure documentation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic healthcare environment
