Job Summary
Oversee day-to-day Development Laboratory operations, ensuring equipment maintains qualified status, scheduling, and troubleshooting while driving 6S/lean lab efforts. Manage laboratory inventory and consumables to prevent downtime, control the lab budget, and coordinate purchasing through SAP. Lead lab safety programs including chemical hygiene, waste disposal, and safety training for administrators and staff. Hire, train, mentor, and supervise lab personnel to ensure high performance and adherence to GMP protocols. Act as the bridge between laboratory staff, internal departments, and external vendors to meet client project timelines. Requires on-site presence with occasional after-hours responsiveness for critical activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Chemistry or related scientific field
- 6 years analytical pharmaceutical experience or related laboratory management
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current knowledge of laboratory equipment
- proven track record of hands-on operations in the laboratory or equivalent experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
- Ability to effectively present information to management and peers
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of mathematics applicable to the position, including algebra, and basic calculus
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (chemical formulae, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
- Deep understanding of lab equipment (e.g., HPLC/UPLC, GC, prep chromatography)
- Deep understanding of lab practices (hazardous chemical handling, safe storage practices, waste handling, etc.)
- Experience with standard procurement practices (SAP, etc.)
- Proven ability to manage a team
- Proven ability to foster a collaborative cross-departmental environment
