Job Summary
Lab Manager for an MIT spin-off focused on advanced neurotechnology. Responsible for overseeing lab facility and equipment (power, utilities, HVAC, procurement, calibration, preventive maintenance), coordinating with engineers on custom setups, supporting scientific writing and financial analyses (grant budgets, investor reports, IP-related tasks), handling animal protocol and biosafety compliance (IACUC, IBC, NIH standards), overseeing chemical safety and EHS compliance, and managing administrative operations and staff. Requires hands-on experience with BSL-2 labs, strong understanding of lab infrastructure, and proven grant-writing and patent-writing capabilities. The role blends biology, electronics, and operations to enable compliant, scalable research in a startup environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Neuroscience, Biology or related field
- Experience in managing BSL-2 and chemical labs in biotech, academia, or startups
- Proven experience with IBC and animal protocol submissions
- 3+ years’ experience in grant writing and budgeting; familiarity with NIH/DoD/NSF preferred
- 3+ years’ experience in writing patent applications
- Technically curious, detail-oriented, and able to bridge science and operations seamlessly
