Job Summary
Prepare teaching laboratories for daily experiments across General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry courses. Demonstrate proper equipment use, chemical storage, and safe handling protocols to students. Manage inventory records, facilities requests, and safety training documentation while overseeing solution preparation and waste disposal. Review handouts and procedures for accuracy, recommending alternative compositions as needed. Assist department leadership with future laboratory expansion planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in science related field
- 3+ years related experience at a university or research laboratory
- Knowledge of Chemistry
- Working knowledge of industry standard chemical laboratory safety protocols with a strong commitment to laboratory safety
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
- Must be able to physically move and/or lift heavy items of approximately 30+ libs
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Eligible for a FDNY Certificate of Fitness
- Operating knowledge of hand tools, and standard office equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and C-14 certification (FDNY Certificate of Fitness)
- Advanced knowledge and ability in understanding chemical laboratory procedures
