Job Summary
Receive laboratory specimens from couriers, review them for proper labeling, and resolve discrepancies per SOPs. Sort specimens for in-house processing or send-outs, then accession them into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) while performing quality control checks and scanning cases. Prepare cases for reference laboratories and confirm daily pickups. Assist with customer inquiries regarding missing reports, order modifications, and slide/block requests via phone, email, and support tickets. Enter diagnostic and billing codes into the LIS to produce macros and close cases for pathologist sign-out. File and retrieve histology slides and paraffin blocks, maintain organized filing systems, and ensure all workstations, lab benches, and equipment are clean and compliant with OSHA and CLIA protocols. Dispose of biohazard waste properly and maintain inventory. Full-time role, 30+ hours, Monday to Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Associate degree preferred
- Must be computer savvy
- Familiar with Microsoft Word
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel
- Familiar with Microsoft Outlook
- Strong communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Six months experience in a similar role
- Must be able to travel up to 25% or less of their time from their home office
- Must be available to work in their office(s) during the week
- Must be able to adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

- Must be able to prepare cases for scanning including performing quality control checks
- Must be able to scan specimens into the LIS
- Must be able to prepare cases for reference laboratories and confirm daily pickups
- Must be able to dispose of biohazard and hazardous waste in accordance with policies and regulations
- Must be able to maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Must be able to adhere to all OSHA, CLIA, and company-specific protocols
- Must be able to assist with inquiries related to missing or delayed pathology reports
- Must be able to assist with modifications to orders, requisitions, or reports
- Must be able to investigate and resolve lab-related inquiries
- Must be able to provide data entry support to Pathologist(s)
- Must be able to enter diagnostic codes and/or additional test orders from the pathologist
- Must be able to enter the orders into the LIS
- Must be able to enter the diagnostic code(s) and associated billing code(s) into the LIS
- Must be able to close the case
- Must be able to file and retrieve histology slides and paraffin blocks following laboratory protocols
- Must be able to maintain an organized filing system for easy access and retrieval
- Must be able to assist with archiving and tracking slide and block locations
- Must be able to keep workstations, lab benches, and equipment clean and organized
- Must be able to dispose of biohazard waste properly
- Must be able to restock cleaning supplies
- Must be able to clean and disinfect lab equipment
- Must be able to ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Must be able to maintain inventory
- Must be able to restock lab supplies
- Must be able to put away shipments upon arrival
